Muslim Views on Suicide Bombings, Al Qaeda Shifting

Via the AP: “A wide ranging survey of international attitudes in 47 countries by the Pew Research Center also reported that in many of the countries where support for suicide attacks has declined, there has also has been decreasing support for Al Qaeda leader Usama Bin Laden.”

The Pope vs. Martin Luther

Via Reuters: “The Vatican said on Tuesday Christian denominations outside Roman Catholicism were not full churches of Jesus Christ. Protestant leaders said this was offensive and would hurt inter-denominational dialogue.” I think Martin Luther covered that one well enough.

Idiocracy, or How Do You Like Your Red Herrings?

This is rather revealing, when facts on your side, fall back on emotion:
Drew Westen, a genial 48-year-old psychologist and brain researcher, was talking to a rapt liberal audience about the role of emotion in politics, how to talk back aggressively to Republicans, and why going negative is not to be feared.

Senior French Official: Possible Bush Behind 9/11

From Reuters: “French Housing Minister Christine Boutin . . . [on] whether she thought Bush might be behind the [9/11] attacks, Boutin says: ‘I think it is possible. . . I know that the websites that speak of this problem are websites that have the highest number of visits … And I tell myself […]

Live Earth Flops Down Under: Hippies Blamed

Via the Sydney Morning Herald: “Scores were seen leaving within the first two hours of the nine-hour festival, fed up with the lack of basic services. . . It was ‘unAustralian’, one spectator protested. ‘This is what happens when you let hippies organise a big event,’ another said.”

Islamic Terrorists Embrace Diversity

Gypsy Scholar has a post on, “Understanding Islamist Terror: Radicals, Moderates, and Reformists,” which points out:
…the popular and oft-repeated mantra that poverty spawns terrorism does not fit the facts for Islamist terrorists. Some are poor, some are comfortable, and some are fabulously wealthy.
[. . .]
The distinction between “moderates” and “reformists” is useful, in […]

Clinton Bows to Emotion over Fact on Libby

Bill Clinton’s audacity in criticizing Bush over voiding Libby’s prison sentence was not lost on the White House either, or anyone else with a bit of common sense and knowledge of the issue. Slick Willy was short on facts and long on emotion:
Former President Bill Clinton blasted his successor’s decision to spare former […]

Russian Response to U.S. Missile Defense Disingenuous

In a rather blunt and inept form of attempted blackmail, Russia is threatening to target Europe over the U.S. plan to install part of its missile defense shield there:
Russia could site cruise missiles in Kaliningrad, the Russian enclave between Poland and Lithuania, if the US goes ahead with plans for a missile defence […]

Toyota Prius Gets Bad Boy Image, Sort of

I didn’t know the hybrid electric Prius could go this fast:
Al Gore III — whose father is a leading advocate of policies to fight global warming — was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of Los Angeles when he was pulled over by an […]

Happy Birthday America, 1776 – 2007

Today is a good day to start a new blog with an old URL! I hope your Independence Day has been a good one, and do take a moment to reflect on why we celebrate.
Note: All posts and comments before 04 July 2007 have been imported from DPRK Studies, which will continue to […]

Gore Gored

I’d like to see a fact based response by Gore to this; Alarmist global warming claims melt under scientific scrutiny.
